President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov addressed the welcoming statement to participants of the international scientific conference on the Use of Alternative Energy Sources in Turkmenistan.

Addressing scientists and congratulating them on the opening of the forum, the Turkmen leader expressed belief that the interesting reports spotlighting the outstanding achievements in the development of scientific thought in Turkmenistan and the analytical reviews of the scientific, technological, ecological and economic aspects of contemporary use of alternative energy sources would be presented at the forum.

«Along with intensive transit of our energy to world markets, we carry out the large-scale work to apply advanced, economically sound, eco-friendly technologies in the sectors of the national economy,» the President’s statement says. "We make substantial investments to develop the strategic branches of science studying alternative energy sources, which have become an integral part of the contemporary life of a human society and actively contribute to effectively addressing challenges of the modern world such as global climate change.

«We consider alternative energy that is rightly called «energy of the future» a priority trend in further modernization of the national fuel and energy sector. The establishment of the Gun Research Institute affiliated with the Academy of Sciences Institute of Turkmenistan last year and our initiatives to develop the plan to widely use additional energy sources including solar, wind, geothermal energy, biogas, became the critical steps taken by Turkmenistan to further improve the national science.

«The development and production of new, ecologically clean technologies for the efficient use of alternative energy sources, particularly solar, wind, water energy, geothermal and hydrothermal heat, biogas and other sources, is the most important task,» the President continued. «The constructive fulfillment of this task in the spirit of modern requirements and realities through the efforts of a particular state is impossible. From this viewpoint we pay special attention to such a critical vector of our science policy as establishing and enhancing fruitful cooperation with the leading research centres of the world.»

«Our scientists and experts produced the non-polluting autonomous solar-wind complexes, various units and installations consuming the solar energy, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said. «Furthermore, the large-scale projects aimed at developing small-scale production of bio-fuel and other non-polluting autonomous industrial units and studying the potential opportunities to produce silicon from the sand of the Karakum desert. A range of use of alternative energy sources to develop actively the arid areas nearby the manmade sea in the Karakum desert — the Turkmen Lake and implement such a large-scale project as Avaza national tourism zone on the Caspian seaside will be expanded significantly in the near future.»
