Repetek. The Beauty of the World.
Formation of «green» zones the most natural and efficient way of improvement of environment in conditions of arid zone
Shady public gardens are perfectly blend with the city environment and are fine addition to a landscape architecture of the cities. It is a necessary element of creation of a microclimate and improvement of sanitary-and-hygienic condition of inhabitancy. Cultural-aesthetic value of the green plantings having salutary influence on health and feeling of the person is great.
One of the ancient historical monuments of Turkmenistan is the Bezegli dale situated in the Chendir valley of the Magtymguly district. The monuments in that historical place have symbţlic ideographic inscriptions "Say, the Mother of Ferilioty is Ashe", which is considered to be the most ancient ideographic inscription in the world.
Turkmenistan hasa very rich past. Today Altyn depe, ancient Merv, the mausoleum of Sultan Sanjar, the monuments of Koneurghench, the Mashadi-Misserian fortresses, the fortress of Nissa amaze visitors. These monuments are very important in the world civilization. Side by side with them there are monuments in Turkmenistan which have not been studied yet.
We are lucky to state that after 70 years (since 1931) we managed to put the linear unbalanced thermodynamics in order.
The Repetek State Biosphere Reserve was founded on the 27th of October of 1927 for the protection of the unique black saxaul forest (formation Haloxylon aphyllum) of the East Garagum and neighbouring areas of deserts.
The Repetek Nature Reserve is situated in Lebap province in the central part of the East Garagum desert. The total area of the reserve is 34600 ha. In 1979 the Repetek Reserve was included into the International Network of Biosphere Nature Reserves.
According to the latest data 1343 species and subspecies of invertebrate animals have been registered in the Repetek Nature Reserve. 7 species of the Repetek insects are included into the Red Data Book of Turkmenistan, published in 1999. These are Empusa pennicornis, Magrettia mutica, Ammohenulus pavlovski. Uvarovium desertorum, Bufonacridella sumakovi, Anthia mannerheimi and Oryctes.
Among the vertebrate animals there is 1 species of Amphibia, 22 of Reptilia, 2 species of which are Monitor lizard and Middle Asian cobra included into the Red Data Book of Turkmenistan. Middle Asian cobra is also included into the Red Data Book of International Union of Nature Conservation (IUCN).
Among 202 species of birds registered in Repetek Reserve 13 species are included into the Red Data Book of Turkmenistan: Golden eagle, Desert Sparrow, Ordinary shorttoed eagle, Black vulture, Houbara bustard, White pelican. Dolmatin pelican, Imperial eagle, Falcon saker, lesser kestrel and Indian Lapwing, Eagle owl. Black vulture, Dolmatin pelican, Imperial eagle, lesser kestrel are included into the Red Data Book of IUCN.
The fauna of mammals of the Nature Reserve include 29 species, 3 of which Caracal, Persian gazelle and Indian porcupine are included into the Red Data Book of Turkmenistan.
There are Fungi, Aquatic, Lichenes, Mosses, Gymnospermae and flowering plants in the Nature Reserve.
During the existence of the station and the Nature Reserve a great research work was carried out. The main results of the research of Repetek Sand-Desert Station and the Repetek Nature Reserve are given in nearly 1000 of scientific articles, research works, collections and monographs.
The basis of the ecological-educational and nature pratecting activities in the Repetek Nature Reserve make up the lectures on nature-preservation topic, publishing articles in the periodical press, taking part in the radio and TV programmes. The lectures on the protection of nature are given among students, school children, workers and offices of enterprises of Turkmenistan and Lebap province. From the time of the attaching to the Reserve the status of International Biosphere it was attended by the representatives of the more than 70 countries of the world.
The Museum of the Nature Reserve has been functioning since 1948. The collection of the 70 copies of butterflies of the reserve, 22 copies of beetles, including Anthia mannerheimi are exhibited in the museum. The exhibition of venomous Arachnida includes 5 copies, an exhibition of snakes consists of 9 copies, including Middle Asian cobra. The exposition of the other reptiles includes 14 copies, including the biogroup with monitor lizard. The birds in the museum are of 77 copies, represented by the expositions and biogroups. In the biogroup mammals are represented in 14 copies and 11 species.
The Repetek sandy landscapes has no analogs in the world, and that's why the Reserve has the international status.Muhammetgurban ORAZO╠.
